There is  a new dependency on liblikeback – we’re now using a shared version, instead of including our one (to fix the longstanding horrible situation of kmess, amarok, basket, and others). I hope that it will be more maintainable and useful to users: among the other things, we now infact feature an RSS feed, so that you can be updated of new releases or important news from your favourite KDE application.

Changelog

Here is a very short summary of the most relevant changes from the previous version:

• Fixed 5 out of 6 reported bugs, including all the crashers, and one wish.
• Implemented a likeback system to gather feedback.
• Handle much better different encodings.
• Fixed all the licensing issues, packages seem to be arriving. There is already an AUR package (still 0.2 for now) for Arch Linux users, and people are working on a *ubuntu PPA.

This release should be quite stable, since all reported bugs have already been fixed, and it also introduces the much awaited support for multiple calendars or addressbooks, so you get to choose what you want to sync. Investigations on how to support syncing multiple calendars together are also being done.

From this moment onwards Akunambol will also have a new home, reachable at the address http://akunambol.ruphy.org. The repository still lives on gitorious for now, but will migrate to KDE’s git as soon as it is ready.

In addition to this, akunambol has also gained a new bugtracker. To report a bug or a wish you can now use KDE’s bugtracker (bugs.kde.org) and file a bug against akunambol.

Please note that Akunambol 0.2 depends on libfunambol r2511 (or greater), so any version released after the 12th August 2010. You can download a tarball of a stable snapshot above.

Installing

In order to install Akunambol, you should first make sure to have installed all the dependencies required to build any KDE application. This includes (but is not limited to) kdelibs, kdepimlibs, oxygen-icons and akonadi, and in case your distro packages the headers separately, remember to install the development packages too.

To build libfunambol you should cd into build/autotools, and run the usual set of ./configure, make, make install. There is more documentation available in the libfunambol package itself.

Once libfunambol is installed, to compile akunambol you should proceed like any you would do with any normal KDE application. This means you should run cmake first, then make, and make install.
